One weekends flying in Wales per month based on the weather!
These great fun camping weekends away in South Wales are ideal for any qualified CP pilot wishing to explore this amazing area for flying under the watchful eye of an instructor. The weekends are aimed at new CP pilots wishing to gain airtime and confidence and to start to develop further as a new pilot. We structure this guided learning on the BHPA Pilot Development Structure or PDS which offers practical exercises, guidance, tips and resources and allows you to track your development and currency beyond getting your CP qualification.
Most of us camp at a local campsite but there are other options such as local hotels, B&B's or AirBnB's should you prefer not to camp.
We don't specify the exact weekend these trips take place in advance and prefer to make a decision a few days before to make sure we get the best weather. CP pilots should therefore be fairly flexible with which weekend in the month that they can come along. We try to pick the best weekend in the month for our June, July, August and September weekends based on the ability of pilots and practical exercises needed by those booked in for the particular weekend.
From Sussex it's about 3.5 hours drive and we normally head down on the Friday evening, fly on the most appropriate sites on the Saturday and Sunday as permitted by the weather and then return on the Sunday evening.
Some South Wales flying sites are public but some are members only. If we want to go to a members only site then all of the group will need to be members of the swhgpgc which currently costs a mere £25 per year.
Students normally need to make thier own way to Wales unless previously arranged and the cost of camping is not included but is currently cheap at £7 per night per person.
